"Music of Banaras" - performances in Poland Aug 2-6, 2022

"Music of Banaras" is a duo composed of some of the most outstanding contemporary instrumentalists developing the Benares style of music. Deobrat Mishra is a master sitar player, one of India's most celebrated artists of Indian classical music. Prashant Mishra - is an unparalleled virtuoso of tabla playing. Both artists come from India's famous multi-generational musical Mishra family.

The band's arrival in Poland - for the first time - is connected with its annual tour of Europe.

The core of their repertoire for concerts in Poland is Indian ragas, performed on Indian musical instruments - the sitar and tabla drum. Their style is characterized by innovation and expression with great musical sensitivity. Melodiousness, complexity of rhythms, lightness, delicate embellishments and melismas, requiring extraordinary proficiency and subtlety, create a unique character of the concerts.

The entire musical Mishra family of Varanasi is held in the highest esteem in India and abroad. Deobrat's father and Prashant's grandfather, Pandit Shivnath Mishra, a famous sitar artist from the "Banaras Gharana" school of style, received the prestigious 'Padma Shri' award from the President of India this year (2022). Also from this family comes Pt. Anup Mishra, a dhrupad style singer who performed at the 2012 Cross-Culture Festival in Warsaw.
