Indian music band "Music of Banaras" - perfomances in Poznan and Warsaw - June-22 and June-25, 2024
"Music of Banaras" is a duo comprising of some of the most outstanding contemporary instrumentalists developing the Benares style of music.
Deobrat Mishra is a master sitar player, one of India's most celebrated artists of Indian classical music.
Prashant Mishra - is an unparalleled virtuoso of tabla playing. Both artists come from India's famous multi-generational musical Mishra family.
The band's arrival in Poland - for the second time - is the part of their annual tour of Europe.
The core of the repertoire of the concerts in Poland is Indian ragas, performed on Indian musical instruments - sitar and tabla. Their style is characterised by innovation and expression with great musical sensitivity. The melodiousness, complexity of rhythms, lightness, delicate ornamentation and melismas, which require extraordinary proficiency and subtlety, create the unique character of the concerts.

The entire Mishra family of Varanasi is highly respected in India and abroad. Deobrat Mishra's father (also Prashant Mishra's grandfather), Pandit Shivnath Mishra, a renowned sitar artist from the 'Banaras Gharana' school of style, in this year (2022) received the prestigious 'Padma Shri' order from the President of India for cultural (music) achievements. Pt. Anup Mishra, a dhrupad style singer who performed at the Cross-Culture Festival in 2012, also comes from this family.
