STUDIES of YOGA of the Himalayan Masters

We are pleased to invite you to the study course in Yoga of the Himalayan Masters, inspired by the teachings of Swami Veda Bharati (Dr. Usharbudha Arya). It is designated for those who aspire to be grounded in yoga and would like to develop deeper insights into yoga philosophy.  The study consists of six weekend retreats between January and June 2022 with practices and study of Patanjali's Yogasutras.

The course will end with a certificate.

SATURDAY 

05:45 morning chanting
06:00 Morning yoga session: subtle gymnastics (sūkṣma-vyāyāma), hatha-yoga
07:30 morning pranayama, mindfulness, relaxation.
08:30 breakfast
10:00 lectures, Yogasutras, discussions, other activities
13:00 lunch
16:30 evening yoga session: hatha yoga (āsanas), 
18:00 relaxation passing into meditation.
19:00 dinner
20:00 satsang / film / additional lecture / questions and answers / music program  
21:00 evening mantras
21:30 night silence / night meditation / individual yoga nidra.

(I) January 7-9: Observation and acceptance, feeling, realxing the mind

Study:
- Types of consciousness and its modifications (including YSū I.1-16)
- Two aspects of practice (YSū 17-22, YSū I.23-29)

(II) February 18-20: Forming attitudes and reactions as appropriate to the situation, developing inner clarity and peacefulness

Study:
- Types of obstacles, methods for dealing with them (YSū I.30-I.40)
- Description of the inner state after attaining tranquility and direct insight (samāpatti, YSū I.41-51)

(III) March 18-20: Self-Healing

Study
- the energetic structure of a person 
- science of breath (prāṇa)
Special concert of Indian music

(IV) April 8-10: Developing strength. Overcoming pain and suffering
Study:
- What is pain? (YSū II.1-15) 
- The four noble truths of yoga and ayurveda, or the removal of suffering ( YSū II.16-27)
- The lower limbs of yoga (YSū II. 29-55)

(V) May 13-15: Mastery over thoughts, speech, and emotions.

Study:
- The higher members of Patanjali's yoga: dhāraṇā, dhyāna, and samādhi (YSū III.1-8)
- The nature of the flow of time and its transcending (YSū III.6-16)
- The power of voices and their effect on consciousness according to the teachings of Abhinavagupta (YSū III.17, Parātrīśiā-vivaraṇa)

(VI) June 24-26: Silence: transcending thoughts, integration with self and others, natural state, yogic sleep (yoga-nidrā).
